Orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatment encompasses the management of various facets of facial growth, including dentofacial orthopedics, and the shaping and development of the jaw. A specialist in orthodontics is referred to as an orthodontist. Formerly known as orthodontia, the term originates from the Greek words orthos, meaning “straight, perfect, or proper,” and dontos, translating to “teeth.” Orthodontics extends to cosmetic dentistry when the objective is to enhance the patient’s appearance. Orthodontists utilize a variety of dental devices such as headgears, plates, and braces to address dental concerns.

Dental braces, also recognized as braces, orthodontic cases, or cases, are orthodontic devices designed to align and straighten teeth, optimizing their positioning in relation to a person’s bite and contributing to enhanced dental health. Braces are effective in closing gaps and are commonly employed to rectify underbites, malocclusions, overbites, open bites, deep bites, cross bites, crooked teeth, and various other dental and jaw irregularities. These orthodontic appliances can serve either cosmetic or structural purposes. Frequently, dental braces are utilized in combination with other orthodontic tools to widen the palate or jaws and contribute to the overall shaping of teeth and jaws.
